Kid Stuff

So, the past few articles have focused on getting our peers into reading comics, but what about the future? What about getting the new readers into the funny books? When I say new reader I mean new to the ability to read. I am asking what about the kids? As the comics medium grows more adult, to cater to an older audience, all ages books have been losing shelving space in the stores.

Battling back the tide of mature readers only books, the big two (Marvel and DC) have recently revitalized their youth line (Marvel Adventures and Johnny DC). Out of these two lines comes a book so fun, quirky and light hearted that just looking at the cover makes me crack a smile. The Eisner Award winning "Tiny Titans" by Franco Aureliani and Art Baltazar with Art Baltazar doubling up duties on art, in a work of kid friendly fun.
"Tiny Titans" takes the entire DC Universe back to school, pre-school. The entire cast of the heroes from "Teen Titans" has been appearing in this run as the students of Sidekick City Elementary run by the villains of the DCU. If you are a long time fan of the DCU you can expect to see all your favorite characters "Baltazized" with plenty of small sight gags in the background. Kids can find that each page is a new story with no need to worry about a higher continuity. If you or you know a kid that is looking for a series where the Final Crisis is the janitor Darkside takes the position of Principal for the day, then "Tiny Titans" will make you say "AWWW Yeah Titans!"
